A little Frustrated With JTV's Jewel School

Melinda, It is your business because many people agree with you and if we all stop watching there will be a BIG problem over at JTV! Thank you for putting it all out there so elequently and I hope the powers that be are listening. I haven’t been able to sit through a Jewel School since Sheree left…and even SHE used to annoy me!

There is a new Jewel School Kit coming out on Sunday…..this is the description:

When jewel school asks an expert to come on a show to promote and demonstrate products, i get really frustrated with just how little time the experts are given to demonstrate the products. “school” implies some teaching and an opportunity to learn. I’m sure that jtv has to pay these experts well to come on the air. However, as a listener and avid jtv watcher, i have a problem with promised experts being pushed back and back so that hosts can show us “just one more item before we get to. . .” i have a problem with the extremely limited time we see the experts work and have good quality conversation asking thoughtful questions of the experts for us. It seems like the hosts are under pressure, a great deal of time pressure to continue the hard sell, sell, sell and very little time with the expert, even while the expert is trying to demonstrate their skills and products.

I think this approach is extremely rude behavior for the guests to be treated this way and it is causing me as a customer to greatly lose interest in watching. It also seems like it is a waste of jtv’s time, money, and effort to bring in the experts and give their work such minimal, hurried exposure. I have wondered why bother to even have them come on the shows? I think a compromise should be in order.

I also don’t watch when hosts voices get screechy, too loud, and interrupt each other and especially when the hosts interrupt or talk over the guests to get back to the selling. I realize tv air time is extremely expensive and precious, but to take time to let us watch the guest work is very important.

This makes me want to not buy anything at all because i feel let down by jtv and don’t appreciate how they are treating their guest experts. I expect more professional behavior and fairness to the experts. I find it really annoying. It’s bad enough when it is in regular gem or jewelery shows, but with a guest that has been highly promoted for a long time that they are coming, and then to be treated like that is in my opinion inexcusable. I expect more from jtv.

I primarily watch gemstone shows. Jay and shawn or the vp’s and founders are not treated like this in the least when they visit shows and they provide great knowledge, interest and conversation. I’m sure that sales are very high when they come on the shows with the hosts. Items seem to sell out very quickly. There is the same air time concern for those people. The same goal to sell what is being presented, etc. But the atmosphere is different, more accommodating for them than for guests. It should be the same in my opinion. If you invite someone into you home you wouldn’t rush them out. You would give them quality time even if it needed to be limited time. You would listen to what they have to say and not hurry them because you have something else to do. You would make them feel welcomed, comfortable and important, glad they are there and interested in what they have to say and what they are doing.

I love jtv and i have been a loyal fan and customer when i can for a long time. But i find myself not wanting to watch now. I’m sorry about that because i really used to enjoy it so much. It was so exciting and fun and i learned so much from whatever show i was watching.

And let me try to be very clear–i do like the lighthearted, casual, atmosphere and even the playfulness and professionalism that is nearly always there. I do enjoy the fun and it adds to jtv’s appeal. I guess the problem is the audience expects one thing from an expert guest appearance and they see another. Also, the audience forms a bond with jtv and a feeling of friendship. You welcome us into you jtv home and we welcome you into our homes. I just think the guest experts could be treated a bit more as an important part of the show and that their contributions are important to jtv and for the viewers, and not just there to hawk the sales.

You know what, this is really none of my business and i am really conflicted for speaking up in such a frank manner. But i do love jtv and care a great deal about it. It is never my intention to be rude or thoughtless when i speak out, especially when i am outspoken. I do know opinions vary and i do not ever want to get anyone in trouble or hurt them in anyway. If i have, i hope jtv will please accept my heart felt apologies if they see this post. That was not my intention in the least. I am simply expressing my frustrations, maybe more than i should have. Of course i will continue to be a faithful watcher and friend to jtv. I’m not going anywhere because jtv is very special to me. I hope to do much more business with jtv in the future. It is a great home for me, even when i get upset.

I’m frustrated with JTV in general. I’m deaf. And the people who are doing their closed captioning put in whatever they feel like. I can hear a little bit, but I need the closed captions to really capture the total gist of the conversation. And I want to know ALL of what they’re saying, even if they’re just joking around, but the CC people sometimes just take a break, or write “check the price on the screen” or even say sarcastic things like “Oh goody, Tanzanite again.” They are not only being inconsiderate of the deaf, and leaving us out in the dark, but they are not giving JTV their money’s worth. My daughter is a Registered Closed Captioner and she is appauled by what I’ve shown her on JTV. I did send an email to Customer Service who said they are looking into it, but so far nothing has changed. It’s very frustrating. If I turn the TV up so I can hear some of it, and compare it to the Closed Captions, you’d be shocked at the lack of content.

I really don’t watch JTV, but what problems they seem to be having were perfectly stated by Texas 51 and Junta and somehow these opinions should be sent to JTV directly. Why not? These are all valid statments and they should be heard. If somehow u can send them from this forum u should try. IMHO
