This thread is based on a comment from Gary.

    Here is his original list:

Lets pick the Gem stone and say which is the best cut.

    Diamond is European Cut

    Emerald is Emerald cut

    Tanzanite is Trillion Cut

Sapphire is Oval or Round Cut

Coral is Oval Cab or Carved

    Torq is Oval Cab

    Chrome Diopside is Emerald Cut

    Tsavorite Garnet is Emerald Cut

    Demantoid Garnet is Emerald Cut

    Morganite is Marquise Cut

    AquaMarine is Square Cut

    Jade is Oval Cut

Here are some types of Cuts

    #319868

This what your Birth Gem Stone means.   Notice mine is wisdom and wealth.  Well one out of two ain’t bad.

    #319869

    #319870

This is a little easier to follow than the other chart.

    #319871

I can actually read this one!  I will put a Gem with each of these shapes/cuts.

    Round would be Moissanite.

    Cushion, best would be Morganite.

Oval  would be  Coral and others too, but I picked best.

Pear or Tear drop would be Ruby

    Octagon would be  Red Zircon

    Baguette   would be Aquamarine

    Square  would be Blue Sapphire

Heart of course Ruby , oooh   Two for Ruby.  Ruby twosday, ha ha

Marquise would be once again  Morganite

Trillion without a doubt its Tanzanite.  Tanzanite is  best by far in a Trillion!

Hexagon    I am going with Chrome Diopside or Russian Diopside.

    Pentagon  Black Diamond

Emerald , no brainer ,if the name fits it , you must use it.  Emerald.

Star  , I am going with Pink Sapphire

    Tapered  ,  Paraiba Tourmaline

Round with European cut    White Diamond

    That is Gary B’s picks!

    What is yours?

I know Coral is not a stone , I also like Lapis and Jade for this, but my Gem Stone would be Amethyst . Also note Coral, Jade , and Lapis would be a Cabochon.

I’ll do just a few and come back later.

Cushion cut. Ruby. Here’s a photo:

Diamond: Round brilliant (boring, I know). But I saw this on Facebook, and it may just change my mind:

    From Mallory’s Jewelry

Oval: Sapphire. Though if the sapphire has electric blue in it, I’ll pretty much take any cut.

Emerald/Emerald: I have a triple marquis-cut, but I do like the traditional emerald cut. But for me, with emerald, the most important thing is the design:

Emerald cut: Chrome Diopside: But most important is vivid green color

Opal: Oval. Though I bet it’s gorgeous in carved.

Oval, 2: Moonstone: Carved is so cool. But oval.

Turquoise: Inlays. I’m such a sucker for inlays, and I have a lot of them. Photo to come.

Garnet: This is one of my very favorite stones. I like them as big as they can be with still maintaining color, and I prefer red but also love orange and green. Garnets have to be cut right to allow the color to come through. Too deep or too big and it blacks out. One of my favorites is actually one I bought off e-bay, a three stones set in a cascading wave, each about 1 carat. But a vivid, vivid red that’s hard to find.

Square: Here’s a good one for the Dementoid. Small stones though.

Morganite: Oval. I’m so boring. Okay. How about cushion. Or big pear.

Aquamarine: Emerald or square or oval

I’m adding: Amethyst. I have a honker in an emerald cut that I love. But I also like oval.

Technically, gemstones are defined as minerals (as opposed to organics, like pearl or amber), so lapis and turquoise are both gemstones!

I love the blue in lapis. I also love the extremely rare Hauyne, which is very similar to and sometimes part of lapis

While I do wear lapis, I also love it carved into shapes:

    ,

We agreed on 4 , not bad !  Actually Black onyx was my 3rd pick for Tapered, with Mystic Topaz as 2nd but almost my first.  My second pick for round was Diamond and almost my first pick. Tear drop, my second pick would  Morganite!  So , I think 4 matches and 2 close but no cigars.  Man I can see why it took you so long to respond. I bet you had to look all over for the pics. I think we are closer than  Michelle #2(Lady9)

Showing off the Morganite!   This is a nice size stone there.

It goes to show just how many gem stones that are out there. So many combos to choose from.

Amazing we came as close as we did, but we just have the same good taste.

But Imagine if you would have played by the rules   and picked a star stone, pink sapphire would have been your choice.  We could have all three picked 45 different choices.  I wonder what some of the hosts would have picked playing our little game?

haha! The Pentagon and Star were challenging for sure – you would think I was “buying” them the way I couldn’t settle for what I saw online  :rotflmao:

I must say – my Morganite is soooo fantastic! :teehee: It is a 7ct stone in 14k rose gold – sold by Rocks TV when they first came to the US market from the UK and I got it for $379! It’s hard to find that peachy color now a days, in that size, and certainly not at that price. Loveee!
