Lucky December babies, Tanzanite is December’s birthstone (along with turquoise). It ranges in color from the light violet/blue to a deep, deep violet blue that rivals sapphire. It’s a single-source stone, which means the only place you can find it is Tanzania.

Tanzanite is pleochoic, too, which means you see different colors in it depending on how the stone is turned. In lighter colors, I think it’s harder to see that.
