Now JTV is starting Extra shows.  As of now, there are two. Rockafellas Unplugged and Girl Talk!  Girl Talk ,hosted by Morgan starts the 10th at noon EST.

Looks like they are trying to go the way of other Jewelry sellers.  They say it is less expensive than regular programing .  The Extra shows will not bring the people in like the TV shows.  I do attend the Rockefellas Gem shows and I will not watch Girl Talk. Why?  Because I am a guy and if I wanted Girl talk ,I would watch (man hating) View.  Seriously, if your a man and you go on there, you must be an idiot. You will get blamed for everything going wrong in the world.

JTV could be looking to cut back on TV programing. I don’t know. The people 60 and over would prefer to watch shows via TV.  Younger set would be just as happy with online shows.   I do believe that Jewelry sales are still down and I think this proves it, if not why not keep on doing what your already doing?  I mean if you went to 12 hours of live hosts and new shows and just used repeats the other 12 hours, you would save money. Then you have “extra” shows at reduced costs.  I  would be concerned about taking eyes away from the regular shows by using Extra shows. I was wondering why they took off the GEM shows.  I think every other show will soon be Bella Luce.   They have reduced  a lot of shows(including my favorite “Pacific” ). They also have a Splendidio Oro which is gold at 3 to 1 ratio of price to spot/scrap price. That is the lowest I have ever seen. I buy broken gold jewelry at spot or just below and I can buy Gold Jewelry in bad shape a little over spot, but I can’t get used Jewelry in decent shape for 3 to 1 ratio.  If Jewelry sold well at this time, all of those gold items would have sold out. Only a few did, I think four items!  I see many pieces repeating on other shows at substantial reductions.  The LC  rarely sells out of Jewelry at even lower prices than JTV.  If you have 30 pieces of Jewelry per show and 100 total available, that’s 3000 pieces x 12 shows for 36,000 total.  You have 80,000,000 million viewers(not at one time). You would only need less than 1%  of the viewers to buy one piece of Jewelry each to have a total sell out of show items.  Am I wrong with my math? If so, please correct  my figuring.

    What do you all think?

    Sincerely,

    Yours Truly Gary B.

PS , you would think if they wont do a live show with men’s jewelry, they could at least do one as an extra show! (Just Saying)

I think they are playing with the idea of online shows, but not at the expense of programming. JTV did a similar thing with their jewelry designer series, which was online only.

I think it’s a mistake if JTV goes more online than on TV because the market with the most disposable income still wants to see presentations on TV. Yes, they will shop a website, and yes, they want to see the video there. They don’t always have videos for products though. The younger shopper doesn’t watch the TV show but may watch a stream of it online. But not everyone has data or internet to do that.

This is what Rocks/Gemporia is banking on: that their US customers will still buy even though they have no television presence. Or really, any marketing presence at all. I think they’re going to lose. Jewelry is an impulse purchase for the most part. You give the buyer time to think about the purchase, and they’ll usually walk away.

That said, however, the reason I don’t watch JTV any more comes down to two things: One, the hostess with the most air time is also the most annoying to listen to. Every time I tune in, she’s on, and I cannot stand it. Two, I am not interested in Bella Luce or honkin’ rings set with CZs. I want to hear about a gemstone, where it came from, a bit about what makes it unique, and then I want to see designs that show some imagination. Halo, halo, halo …    Rare, rare, rare    Like  a diamond    And there’s a third: JTV’s prices are really high for what you get. And I’ve watched them evolve to a company that will sell ANYTHING, including the mystery metal they used to deride.

The gold is worth watching because for so long, it was too high to offer at a price customers would buy and I think it fell out of favor. Most women wanted white metal for a long, long time, so they could get away with the rhodium-plated junk they sell instead of white gold because it looks the same. Yellow gold may yet make a bit of comeback, though it presents a problem for JTV because they pushed the plated gold as a suitable alternative for so long.

The only way I watch streaming video live shows from the shopping channels is by using my iPads. Basically they act as my secondary TVs :teehee: and I only do that when the shopping channels on TV are selling boring stuff. So it goes back to I primarily like my shopping channels to be on TV because they are just background noise while I do other things – and if I see/hear something interesting then I do an impulse buy :ladywink:

Tuning in “online” on purpose for extra shows does not work for me. I only did that for 1 year with Rocks/Gemporia until their technologies, constant business model change, and offerings made me give up

The plus on the LC side for me is they have a diverse group of hosts, which is much more relatable for me. And the only times I hear poor feedback from TVSQ followers is when LC gives former JTV hosts a try (except for Katie Rooke, she rocks).

They’ve also incorporated other fun accessories into their inventory so when I’m not in the mood for jewelry it’s cute to watch an hour of handbags (not that Gary is interested in handbags :teehee:)

If I take a guess, I don’t think LC starts with 100 quantity per piece of jewelry that they put on air.

Well you must be talking about Nikki R.?  I am southern too. If we did a show together ,the only two people that could understand us would be the two of us.  The Splendidio Oro is good Gold Jewelry. Really nice and lowest price you can get gold at retail. Trust me. I am a buyer of Gold Jewelry. That is how I invest in gold. I don’t buy gold coins or bars. Jewelry can’t and never has been confiscated by the Government. The Government has confiscated gold once and could again. I doubt if they will. I am more concerned about silver confiscation because it is an industrial metal used in cell phones and computers, etc. If Apple said we can’t find silver to make our products, there is a good chance the government would step in and claim an emergency. I expect Splendido Oro have their own refinery(save money), and it is a family run business(save money), and they sell it instead of sales people(save more money) and that is how they can afford lower prices.  Remember the 4 Ms , Mine it, Melt it, Make it, and Move it!  You will have the lowest price in retail.

They now have 5 ex JTV hosts. So, soon it will be Current JTV hosts vs former JTV hosts. Interesting!  Michele Lau is with LC now.

Usually the LC tries to start with 100 and sometimes it is 50.  JTV on average has 50 to 100 and sometimes as much as 1000 pieces.  You still only need less than 1% watching to buy one piece of Jewelry each day to sell all their show items out. They have never to my knowledge been able to do that since I have been watching.

I have watched LC shows that sold jewelry out, much to my frustration. I remember when they had the amethyst shows a few years back (Lusaka). It was sooo hard to get anything with that gorgeous stone. And then they had southwest style shows, and the time I watched that, it was really hard to pick something up (normal size, not huge pieces) because they were selling out so fast as I called in.

I did see Michelle Lau on the LC now that you mention it. I like Katie too. Here’s the list of the current LC hosts:

You have an interesting perspective on watching the gold show on JTV, Gary. I would have never thought of those things!

A couple of the hosts used to be from ShopNBC (ShopHQ/Evine), like Shawn Wilsie.  There was another one, but I forget her name.

That is what my friend that I bid on local auctions says.  People see jewelry and she said I see Gold or Silver metal.  It is true that most people bid on Jewelry whether they like it or not. I bid on size and weight. It could be ugly as can be , but if it is 1/2 ounce of gold or silver ,I am interested.

LC is really good at listing the weight. I have to remember to pay attention because light weight isn’t great for me.

Yes, and they have Larimar   tonight.  Really good stuff at really low prices!  I think Savings Spin Wheel show comes on at  3 AM Est.   They had Sterling Silver nearly 2 Ct ring for $19.99!  I think I could resale those and make some money.
